About Me

Dr. Joseph D. Cuomo, DPM

Owner & Doctor

Dr. Joseph D Cuomo is a Staten Island Native who is a board-qualified podiatric foot and ankle surgeon. He completed his surgical residency training at Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) in 2025, where he was chief resident. He served as Public Safety Committee Chair for the 2024 and 2025 years, helping with research and policy-changing tasks for RUMC. Dr. Cuomo has also published 3 papers to medical journals, including the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery-FASTRAC and the Journal of Medical Virology. Dr. Cuomo's training has encompassed both surgical and non-surgical podiatric needs such as foot and ankle injuries, tendinitis/tendinopathy, bunions, hammertoes, diabetic foot care, heel pain/plantar fasciitis, ingrown/fungal toenails, warts, and skin disorders.

 Dr. Cuomo graduated from undergrad at Wagner College with a bachelor's and master's in microbiology and was a part-time graduate assistant for microbiology. Once graduated he became a microbiologist at both RWJ New Brunswick and RWJ Rahway. Seeking a more direct path in wanting to treat patients, he went on to achieve his doctorate in podiatry at New York College of Podiatric Medicine. In residency, he had extensive training upon a multitude of areas in the podiatric specialty, ranging from wound care to cutting-edge MIS (minimal incision surgery) training for foot surgeries.

 When Dr. Cuomo is not continuing his studies in new podiatric techniques and advancements, he enjoys playing guitar, traveling, and following up with his favorite sports teams.

Foot Pain

Foot pain can be multiple reasons for a vague pain. If your feet are feeling tired, painful or even numb , a thorough exam from a specialist can pinpoint the problem and direct you to living a pain-free lifestyle promptly.

Diabetic Foot Care

The importance of routine diabetic foot care is necessary due to the at risk factors from Diabetes. Dr. Cuomo provides a multi-modal approach that not only can maintain your feet but prevent them from becoming problems that might even require hospitalizations.

Wound Care

Dr. Cuomo specializes in wound care and can treat a broad range of wounds for the Lower Extremities. These wounds can become dangerous quick and it is recommended to have a specialist treat these wounds. Dr. Cuomo provides multiple layers of care and expertise needed to help these wounds heal.

Neuropathy

As a result of damaged peripheral nerves, peripheral neuropathy can occur causing symptoms like weakness, numbness, burning, and tingling in the hands and feet as well as other parts of the body. This practice utilizes both holistic and traditional medicine to provide the best chance limiting these symptoms.

Sprains

A sprain is when enough energy is exerted on to a ligament that causes it to stretch beyond its normal parameters. Over time these ligaments can become lax and cause sprains to reoccur easily. This can develop instability and pain that can be avoided if professional care is rendered early and efficiently.

Warts

Warts are a viral infection that, though harmless, can be aggressive if left untreated. With proper treatment these resilient painful bumps can go away with a couple of treatments. If left untreated then can get larger and even spread!

Plantar Fasciitis

The most common heel pains in the foot can be caused by tightening of a large band of tissue known as the plantar fascia at the bottom of your foot. Inflammation sets in and the first step of your day could even be the worst step of your day! Over time walking the pain can potentially decrease as the band gets stretched out. Seeing an experienced podiatrist can help you get back on your feet without this pain.

Corns & Calluses

This is a build up of excess thickened skin in pressure points that can cause sharp pains. This is an actual skeletal deformity. With these bony prominences placing the soft tissue between a rock and a hard place. The skin starts adapting to a thickened version. Most commonly this is found on the balls of the feet and the outside of the big toe. Conservative treatment and even surgical treatments may be a solution to these problems.

Bunions

A large bunion that is at the big toe joint. These can be extremely painful. When conservative treatment is not enough it is important to see a specialist for further elevated treatments. Dr. Cuomo is trained in a multitude of treatments and surgical corrections for this ailment, which can lead to a straighter less painful foot!

Hammer Toes

This condition effects the little toes by bending them upwards at the joint. Over time this deformity can go from flexible to rigid. Treating these conservatively may help but sometimes surgery is warranted.

Heel Pain

Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. However it is not the only cause of heel pain. A podiatrist can diagnose and pinpoint the root cause of this heel pain getting quicker and more responsive results.

Sports Medicine

Dr. Cuomo treats a myriad of sports injuries with a multi-treatment focus. Anything from ankle sprains, arthritis, acute injuries or chronic. A thorough evaluation and a consistent tailored to your plan will help you back right on your feet.

Fractures

A broken bone might be a scary immediate event. Dr. Cuomo is trained to diagnose and cater a plan conservatively or surgically based upon the severity and the are of fracture. Something like this should be seen immediately with no hesitation.

Neuromas

Neuromas are enlarged growths of nerves. When irritated these nerves become inflamed eliciting a painful sharp response. Most commonly this is found between the 2nd and 3rd toes.

Athlete's Foot

A contagious fungal infection that is a culmination of dark warm environments that the fungus thrives off. This makes athletes more susceptible due to locker rooms, communal showers and swimming pools. However as long as there’s a source or shared water this fungus can spread. Spas ,salons and water parks are just some of the other places where this can be caught. It is easily treated by a specialist with an accurate diagnosis.

Toenail Fungus

Relatd to Athletes foot, toenail fungus shares a common pathogen that causes this. This fungus however is more resilient due to its heartier living situation at the toenail bed. Dr. Cuomo uses multiple tactics to fight these infections and rejuvenate the skin and nails to make them healthier and more robust, which in turn can be a defense against future infections.
